What You Say

Discussion Questions:

1. How did everyone do with keeping Proverbs 2:2 in front of them this week? Did you find yourself making your ear more attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart toward knowledge?

2. As we’ve gone through this series to this point, what are you personal takeaways? What has God revealed in your own life that has been helpful? How are you applying what we’ve been talking about and reading from God's Word when it comes to guarding our hearts?

3. Read Luke 6:43-45 together as a group. What stands out in this passage of scripture? Focus on the phrase, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” How does this apply to what we’ve been discussing in this series? How are you able to get a glimpse of someone’s heart by what comes out of their mouth?

4. Kaleb said, “What I say and where I go should look different if I’ve guarded my heart effectively.” How have you seen this play out in your own life? Do you notice a difference in these areas when you aren’t guarding your heart?

5. Read Proverbs 18:4-8 as a group. What are the descriptions in this text about how we speak? What are the things to take note of as we discuss being careful what we say?

6. Read Ephesians 4:29 as a group. What stands out in this passage of scripture? How do we use what we say to build up rather than tear down? Do you struggle with tearing down rather than building up? If so, what ways can you begin to grow in building up rather than tearing down?
