The Practice of Meditation

Discussion Questions:

1. Read Joshua 1:8 together. What is the connection between meditation and obedience in this verse? How does regularly thinking about (meditating on) Scripture help us live differently?

2. Read Psalm 1:1–2. What does it mean to delight in God’s Word? Would you describe your time in God's word as a delight or checking off a box? Why or why not? What would need to change for that time to become a delight?

3. Read Psalm 119:15–16. What has God been teaching you lately from His word? How could you “fix your eyes” on those truths this week?

4. Read Psalm 46:10. What does being still look like in your life right now? What practical steps could you take to quiet distractions and give God more focused attention?

5. Read Psalm 77:3. Why do you think the writer felt weak or faint while meditating on God? What might this teach us about the reality that seeking God doesn’t always feel easy or emotional?

6. Read Psalm 77:11–12. What are some things that God has done in your life personally that are worth remembering and meditating on? How can reflecting on God’s past faithfulness strengthen your trust in Him today?

7. From the above passages of scripture and tonight’s overall discussion, what is one intentional practice you could start this week to get closer to God through meditating on His Word?
