Discussion Questions:


1. Read John 8:12-30, John 1:1-5, & John 12:44-50 together. 

What are the things that stand out to you in your initial reading of these passages?


2. What does it mean for Jesus to declare, "I AM The Light of the World" in John 8:12? How can this understanding impact your daily life at work, on a college campus, your relationships, etc?

 

3. Read John 3:19-21, Ephesians 5:7-11, & Colossians 1:13-14.

Discuss the idea of spiritual darkness mentioned in the surrounding verses. How have you experienced this darkness in your own life, and in what ways does Jesus' light offer hope and guidance for you and for others?


4. Read Isaiah 9:2, Isaiah 42:6, Isaiah 60:1-3, & Malachi 4:2.

Discuss from the above verses, how Jesus being The Light of the World fulfills Old Testament prophecies or symbols related to light. How does this historical context add depth to your understanding of Jesus' claim that He is The Light of the World?


5. Read Psalm 27:1, Psalm 119:105, & 1 John 1:5-10.

From the verses above, consider the contrast between light and darkness in the Bible. In what practical ways can you personally embody the light of Christ in the middle of the challenges and temptations of college/young adult life?


6. Read Matthew 5:14-16 & Philippians 2:14-16.

How does recognizing Jesus as The Light of the World impact your identity and purpose? Discuss practical ways you can shine Christ's light in your career, relationships, and on your campus.


7. Read Psalm 43:3, Psalm 119:130, & John 14:6. 

Discuss the connection between Jesus being The Light of the World and truth in your own personal life experience. How can you rely on Christ's light for discernment and direction with life decisions? 


8. Read Matthew 5:16, Ephesians 5:8, 1 Thessalonians 5:5, & 1 Peter 2:9.

Considering the darkness prevalent in the world around, discuss some practical ways you can reflect Christ's light and share the hope you have in Him with others. How can we (The Well) cultivate a community that is illuminated by the love and truth of Jesus?
