John 9
BELIEVING IS SEEING
Headings over this chapter include: Healing the Man Born Blind; and Jesus Heals a Blind Man. It easy for us to get the idea of this chapter’s content. As I thought about this and the common sights that I have seen. The brightness of a rising sun, the setting of that same sun as it slowly disappears below the horizon. The beauty of fresh fallen snow, then the miracle of spring flowers sprouting from the cold ground. The face of the new born baby and that of a dying saint, etc., I thought how precious is the gift of sight. How difficult life would be if we were never able to see and the blessings that would escape us.
Jesus saw this blind man, sitting and begging by the road. He uses this encounter to teach his disciples, and to work the works of his Father who sent him (9:4). And that we may believe that He (Jesus) is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you have life in His name (20:30). May blinded eyes after being healed, see Jesus and say, "Lord, I believe," and worship Him (9:38).
May our opened spiritual eyes, as followers of Jesus, be aware of the many opportunities to glorify God (9:24) as we are passing by. Perhaps that would include, but not limited to: sharing our story of how we were blind and now see, thanks to Jesus; inviting someone who needs Jesus to the 325 opening; joining a Life Group (or leading a group); or shock the staff by saying that you want to be obedient to God’s calling and therefore are available to do whatever, wherever, whenever you are needed.
One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see (9:25). Praise God.
