Faith Over Control
Discussion Questions:
1. James said: “Control replaces faith.” Where do you see that tension most in your life right now, control vs. trust? What does choosing control give you in the moment that faith doesn’t? On the other hand, why could choosing faith be better in your life?
2. The people in Mark 6 had enough information about Jesus to believe, but they still chose unbelief. Why do you think knowing truth about God doesn’t always lead to trusting Him? What usually causes the gap between what we know about God and how we actually live?
3. Think about the different reasons people try to control things (fear, insecurity, past hurt, etc.). Which of those do you most relate to, and how has that shaped your relationship with God? Do you think control is protecting you or limiting you?
4. Read Matthew 8:5–10. What stands out to you in this passage? The centurion had authority but still surrendered control to Jesus. What did he see about Jesus that others missed?
5. The centurion says, “I am not worthy… just say the word.” What does this reveal about humility and faith? How might pride or self-reliance keep us from trusting God like this?
6. “Faith is trusting God with control.” What’s one specific area of your life (relationships, future, finances, etc.) where this feels hardest right now? What would it actually look like, not theoretically, but practically to give that to God?
7. Read Hebrews 11:6. Why do you think faith matters so much to God? How does that challenge the way we usually approach following Him?
