Take Heart

Discussion Questions:

1. Read John 16 together as a group. What stands out as you read through the passage?

2. Focus on John 16:33, talk about the reality that life isn't always easy and discuss Jesus' statement to expect many trials and sorrows. Does this match up with your expectations of life as a Christ-follower? Why or why not?

3. Read Colossians 1:15. Discuss the idea that Jesus has us covered. What confidence does this give you? How does it cause you to live your life differently?

4. Read Matthew 27:45-46. Discuss the idea that God still helps in hopeless situations.

5. What does “taking heart” practically look like in difficult situations? Is there a situation in your life right now where you need to "take heart" and trust in the God who has overcome the world?

Share an experience in your life or one that you've heard of where God did something to help in a situation that seemed helpless.

6. How can we help each other see where God is working in and around us? What are some things that might make it more difficult for us to become aware of God at work?

7. Read Habakkuk 1:5. Do you have a difficult time seeing and believing that God is still working in the helpless situations of your life? In what ways do you personally need to begin to ask God to help you see what He's doing in the helpless situations?

8. End your time praying together over what you read in John 16:33. Pray that the Lord may grant you peace in the uncertain and helpless situations of life, that you would be reminded of His presence in the trials and sorrows, and that your heart would be strengthened in knowing that He has overcome every obstacle that the world can throw your way.
