Commitment

Discussion Questions:

1. Last week we ended in Galatians 6:2 and were challenged to keep it in front of us as we go about the week, commit it to memory, and reach out to some people who may be isolated from community. How did keeping this scripture in front of you this week help you as you went through the week?

2. When you think of the word commitment what comes to mind? Do you find commitment difficult in your own life? Why or why not?

3. Pastor Kaleb said this, “We can slip into the mindset of thinking that thriving is not committing because we have many options available and can choose what we want, but thriving actually looks like removing options, committing to something, and investing your heart into it.” Let's discuss this thought. Do you agree with this statement? Why or why not?

4. Read James 1:6-8 together as a group. What stands out in this passage of scripture? Focus in on what this passage says about divided loyalty. What effect does lack of commitment have on how we live our lives?

5. Read Proverbs 31:16 together as a group. What stands out in this passage of scripture? She considers, then decides, and then commits. We can consider things to the point where we never actually commit to anything.

6. Read Matthew 5:34-37 together as a group. Our lack of commitment leads to unreliability, which leads to people getting an unreliable image of Jesus. How does our lack of commitment give people an inaccurate picture of Christ and how does our commitment give people a more accurate picture of Christ? How does our commitment help us “adult” well?

Challenge: Memorize Proverbs 31:16 this week and think about some of the areas of your life where you could be more committed. Ask God this week to help you commit in those areas of your life!
