The New Life

1. Read Ephesians 4:17–19. Paul describes life without God as confused, darkened, and separated from Him. Where do you see this kind of confusion or emptiness showing up in our culture or among people our age?

2. Read Ephesians 4:20–21. Paul says following Jesus means learning a completely different way of living. What are some ways Jesus’ way of living is different from the patterns our culture encourages?

3. Read Ephesians 4:22. What are some “old self” patterns people often struggle to leave behind when they start following Jesus? What are some of the “old self” patterns you struggle to put behind you?

4. Read Ephesians 4:23–24. Why do you think Paul emphasizes renewing our minds instead of just changing behavior? What might renewing our thinking actually look like in our everyday life?

5. Read Ephesians 4:25–29. Paul gives several examples of replacing old behaviors with new ones. Which of these examples stands out to you the most, and why do you think that specifically matters for followers of Jesus?

6.  Read Ephesians 4:30. What do you think it means that our actions can grieve the Holy Spirit? How does that change the way we think about sin or obedience?

7. Read Ephesians 4:31–32. Paul connects our transformation with how we treat other people. How could living this way change relationships with roommates, classmates, coworkers, or family members?
