The Arrival of The Spirit
Discussion Questions:
1. Have you ever experienced a time in your life when you felt like God was asking you to wait? What was that like for you?
2. Read John 14:16-17 & John 16:7-8. Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would come after He left. Why do you think having the Holy Spirit is actually better than Jesus staying physically with the disciples?
3. Discuss some of the ways have you personally experienced or noticed the Holy Spirit working in your life.
4. Read Acts 1:4 & Acts 1:8. Jesus told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit. How do you typically respond when you feel like God is making you wait for something? Why do you respond this way?
5. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would give them power to be His witnesses. What do you think that the power of the Holy Spirit looks like in daily life? How have you seen the power of the Holy Spirit work through your own life?
6. Read Acts 2:1-6. Imagine you were in the disciples’ position—waiting, unsure of what would happen, and then suddenly experiencing this incredible moment. What would have been your reaction to this moment? We often think of God’s power as something dramatic or miraculous, but how do you think His power shows up in everyday moments?
7. The Holy Spirit empowered the early church to spread the gospel. Do you ever feel hesitant or unqualified to share your faith? What are some of the ways that relying on the Holy Spirit can change that?
8. The disciples didn’t carry this mission alone—they worked together as a church community. How can we, as a community (The Well), better support each other in living out God’s mission in the world?
Challenge for this week: Spend everyday this week asking the the Holy Spirit to guide you in a specific way. Maybe it’s speaking up when you’d normally stay quiet, showing kindness to someone who needs it, simply spending more time listening to what God is saying, etc. Come ready next week to share how you saw the Holy Spirit working through you!
