Saved in the Sand

Jan 24, 2024    Pastor Kaleb Crabtree

1. Reflect on the last week, in what ways have you seen Jesus show up personally in your life? Start tonight’s group by praising Him for how you’ve seen the evidence of His love for you over this previous week.

2. Read John 7:53-8:11 together. As you read through it, what stands out as you read through the passage?

3. What ways do you see Jesus get personal with this woman that has been put before Him?

4. What ways do you see Jesus get personal in the way He challenges the Scribes and Pharisees?

5. Discuss as a group the difference between how the Scribes and Pharisees dealt with this woman's sin versus how Jesus dealt with her sin? How does the way that Jesus dealt with this woman's sin encourage you as you think about the way that He handles sin in your life?

6. This was a very public moment. They didn’t consider this woman as anything more than an object to use to trap Jesus. This would have been very humiliating for this woman to endure. While they made her sin public, they failed to look at their own sins to which Jesus reminds them of in this passage.

If we are honest, sometimes in our own lives, we have the tendency to treat the sins of others much more harshly than our own. We, like the Pharisees see sin in others while failing to recognize it in ourselves. Discuss as a group if this is a tendency that you have. Also discuss the ways that this mindset hinders the witness that you could have in the lives of other people.

7. When Jesus stooped down to the woman's level, He actually humbled Himself to sit with her in her humiliation. Think about the beauty of this moment, how does this interaction encourage you in your own life?

8. Close the night by discussing some people that you want to invite to next month's services. What are you excited about for the XO month and how could you communicate those things to someone that you would like to invite?
