Do You Want to be Healed?
1. Read John 5:1-17 together. What stands out to you in the story of the healing at the pool of Bethesda? How does Jesus demonstrate personal attention and care for the paralyzed man? What aspects of this interaction reveal a personal connection?
2. Explore how Jesus perceives the deeper needs of the paralyzed man beyond physical healing. What can we learn about Jesus’ ability to address both physical and spiritual needs?
3. Jesus starts the conversation with the man by asking if he wants to be healed. How might this approach help us better understand how Jesus engages with individuals on a personal level? What obstacles did the paralyzed man face and how does Jesus address them? How can we apply Jesus’ approach to breaking down personal barriers in our lives and the lives of others?
4. Discuss the role of the paralyzed man’s faith in the healing process. How does Jesus respond to the faith the man demonstrated, and what does this reveal about the personal dynamics of faith in Jesus’ ministry? What can we draw from this about faith in our own lives?
5. Discuss instances in the passage where Jesus’ compassion is evident. How can we model this compassion in our interactions with others, especially those facing challenges?
6. Beyond physical healing, Jesus brings about a transformation in the paralyzed man’s life. In what ways can we seek personal transformation through our encounters with Jesus?
7. Reflect on the relational aspect of Jesus’ interactions in this passage. How can we foster a deep, personal connection with Jesus in our lives and encourage others to do the same?

9. There are many stories in scripture that speak to the nature of Jesus being personally invested in the lives of individuals. As you think of some of the stories in the Bible that we haven’t discussed in this series, how do these reveal Jesus’ personal touch in the lives of people? Discuss these stories that come to mind.
10. Close the night by praying for the people that you want to invite to XO month. What are you excited about for the XO month and how could you communicate those things to someone that you would like to invite?
