David Spares Saul's Life

Sep 20, 2023    Pastor Kaleb Crabtree

Discussion Questions:

1. Read 1 Samuel 24 together. After reading, take a few moments to retell the story in your own words. What stands out most as you read through the passage?

2. Saul’s resentment, bitterness and hatred toward David shows as he hunts him down to kill him. Saul uses the best fit young men to try to take David’s life. Discuss how resentment, bitterness, and hatred can cloud your judgment in situations with other people. How have you seen these things in your own life and how have you seen them mess up your relationships?

3. How did David's men respond in verses 3 & 4? Think about the people that you put in places of influence in your life. Discuss the difference between those that are godly influences versus people who aren’t. What happens when you don’t give the right people the right seats to speak into your life? Share personal examples of the wrong person that spoke into your life and also share about some of the right examples.

4. Look again at verses 5 & 6. What stands out about David’s response in this moment? How does his response to his enemy challenge you?

5. Look at verses 7 & 8. Talk about David's faith in God and the humility that it would’ve taken him to approach Saul. Discuss your faith and humility with your group. How do you respond in tense situations? Are these the natural responses that you live out or do you respond differently?

6. Read verses 9-13 together. Discuss the phrase “wickedness comes from wicked people” What would be the characteristics of a life that is living out wickedness? What would be the product of a life living out grace?

7. As you close tonight, talk about what a community of believers looks like if that community is making an impact in the world around them. After discussing this, then ask the question: In what ways does our community (The Well) model that in the things we do? And in what ways do we need to grow and be better as a community?

*Leaders take notes of the ideas and things that are discussed and send them to Kaleb & Elizabeth once your group is over*

Take some time tonight to plan the specifics of your group's participation at the Life Group Tailgate Party, Saturday, September 23rd 11:00a- 2:00p. Car, food, decorations or anything you would like to add to the day.
