David Worships in Adversity
Discussion Questions:
1. Read Psalm 63 together. What stands out in your reading from this psalm?
2. Look back at verse 1, discuss what it looks like to “eagerly seek the Lord”. Currently in your life, how are you eagerly seeking the Lord? In what areas are you not eagerly seeking Him? Discuss these things as a group.
3. Look back at verse 3, Why do you think David described the steadfast love of the Lord as something that was better than life itself? In what ways have you personally experienced the steadfast love of the Lord to be better than life?
4. In this Psalm we see beautiful worship even in the midst of incredibly adverse times. Do you find it difficult to worship God when you’re going through difficult situations? How does the way David worships God encourage you in your own faith?
5. The breakdown of this Psalm is a desire for God (vs 1-2), the praise of God (vs 3-5), the remembrance of God (vs 6-8), and rejoicing in God (vs 9-11). Discuss how you see each of these throughout the passage. After discussing how you see these things in the passage, talk as a group about each of these areas in your own life.
6. Remember that the backdrop of this passage is David worshiping in the wilderness. The idea of the wilderness is that it is a place that may be more difficult in life. It is a place that may be more difficult to see God if we aren’t intentionally looking for Him. Talk about wilderness seasons in your own life. Recall previous wilderness seasons and how you’ve seen God through those previous seasons. If you’re currently walking through a wilderness season, in what ways are you seeking God as you’re walking through it? How can this group be a help to you through this difficult season?
7. End the night by praying as a group, ask for requests and then give them out to individuals and have multiple people pray, each over one request.
Reminder that The Well service is next week, take a moment before everyone leaves to reach out to people who you haven’t seen in a while or someone who hasn’t been to The Well and you’d like to invite!
