The Mercy of David

Discussion Questions:

1. Spend some time together discussing grace and mercy. How would you describe them? When you think about the grace and mercy of God and that they are extended to you, what feelings and emotions come to mind?

2. Read 2 Samuel 9. What stands out as you read this passage? Talk about how you are encouraged by this passage of scripture.

3. Read 1 Samuel 20:14-15, this is David and Johnathan's covenant. David decided to follow covenant and not custom. It would have been the custom to kill all the family of an enemy but instead David honored the covenant that he had with Johnathan. What does this tell you about David? Considering the mess that he went through with Saul, how does this response from David challenge you?

4. Discuss this thought: God does not identify you by your condition, He identifies you with His Son's finished work on the cross. In what ways does this encourage and challenge you?

5. Look back at 2 Samuel. This phrase indicates that this is a kindness David was first shown before he ever was showing it. Discuss the ways that you’ve seen God’s kindness in your own life.

6. End the night by talking about different ways you can show the kindness of God to others as a Life Group.
