All the Feels - Love

Mar 8, 2026

In today's culture of instant relationships and social media romance, we're challenged to examine a crucial distinction: are we experiencing genuine love or merely lust disguised as affection? This message takes us deep into Matthew 5, where Jesus moves beyond surface-level morality to address the intentions of our hearts. He doesn't just prohibit adultery as an action, He warns that looking at someone with lustful intent is adultery of the heart. This isn't about legalism; it's about recognizing that lust objectifies people while love builds them up. Jesus uses shocking language about gouging out eyes and cutting off hands not to promote harm, but to emphasize how seriously we must take sin that always begins in our hearts. The reality is that whatever controls our hearts will eventually show up in our actions. For a generation, more immersed in screens than any before, this means being vigilant about what we consume through our eyes and ears. The media we watch, the accounts we follow, and the content we scroll through…all of it shapes our hearts. We're called to memorize Proverbs 4:23, to guard our hearts with all diligence, because from them flow the springs of life. This isn't just about avoiding sin; it's about protecting the wellspring of who we're becoming and ensuring we treat others with the dignity and respect they deserve as image-bearers of God.
