Seek and You Will Find
1. Read Matthew 7:7-11 together as a group. Unpack this text of Scripture together. What stands out as you read through it?
2. The prayer life of a Christ follower is extremely important. Take a few minutes to discuss around the room what your prayer life currently looks like. In what ways do you find prayer difficult and in what ways would you like to grow in the discipline of prayer in your own life?
3. Read verses 7 and 8 again as a group. Talk specifically about those 3 areas brought up in the text. 1) Ask and it will be given to you 2) Seek and you will find 3) knock and it will be opened to you. We usually don’t see things given because we fail to ask, we don’t find things out because we haven’t sought the answer, and we don’t see things opened because we aren’t knocking. In what ways have you found this to be true?
4. Where this can get tricky is when we are asking, seeking and knocking from a place in our flesh. We have to be careful that as we come to God we seek his answers for our lives and not our own. Often times the way God answers isn’t the way we are looking for things in our lives to be answered. How have you found that to be difficult in your own life? On the flip side of that, in what ways have you found God's answers better than your answers during certain situations in your life?
5. Let’s end tonight by discussing the ways as a group that we can help one another grow in our prayer lives. And then let’s take time together to pray around the room.
