Adultery & Lust

1. Read Matthew 5:27-32 together as a group. Unpack this text of Scripture together. What stands out as you read through it?

2. The self righteousness of the Pharisees had made adultery into a matter of the hands, but not a matter of the heart. They made looking different than lusting, and disassociated them from one another. Jesus addresses that in this passage.
Read James 1:15, 1 Peter 2:14, and Job 31:1 together as a group. Unpack these passages and answer this question: how do these 3 passages help me guard my heart by protecting what my eyes look at?

3. This passage is all about heart purity. What is not acknowledged in my heart will eventually result in being acted upon with my hands. We need complete heart transformation when it comes to lust in our lives. Read Psalm 51:10 and Ezekiel 36:26 together as a group. What does it look like for God to give you a new heart. Answer more deeply about what a genuine daily relationship with God ought to look like.

4. Jesus doesn’t take sin lightly when he says to tear out your eye and cut off your hand. The best way to take heart purity seriously is to acknowledge sin in your life and hold one another accountable in our walks with God in these areas. How seriously do you deal with sin in your life? And let’s talk open and honest, is anyone struggling with lust currently and how can we be helping one another in this very difficult area of our lives?
