Anger

Aug 18, 2021    Pastor Kaleb Crabtree

1. Read Matthew 5:21-26 together as a group. Unpack this text of Scripture together. What stands out about anger as you read through this passage?

2. Read John 17:21 together as a group. If Jesus prayed for our unity, then it is extremely important. Why is our unity so important? Has there been a time where you let unity with someone come second to your anger towards them? Would you be vulnerable to share that with the group?

3. Read Romans 12:18 together as a group. There is a responsibility that I have in seeking reconciliation when I know that I have anger toward someone. A lot of times we expect the other person to make the first step. How and why is this mindset wrong to have as a believer?

4. Read Matthew 5:25-26 and Ephesians 4:26-27 together as a group. Unpack these Scriptures together and then answer the question: How does unsettled or unreconciled anger imprison you? How does that anger “give place to the devil” in your life?

5. Read Matthew 5:23-24 and Romans 12:1 together as a group. Our gift at the altar is now the sacrifice of our life at the feet of Jesus. My sacrifice back to God encompasses every aspect of worshiping Him with my life. Kaleb said God desires the worship of our reconciliation with one another above anything else when we have anger toward someone else.

As a practical action step: How can you best worship God in reconciliation tonight? Can you acknowledge if there’s someone you have unreconciled anger towards? Let’s hold one another accountable by talking about what action steps we personally need to take in the next 24 hours to seek reconciliation with people in our lives that we have anger toward.

Challenge for our group: Read John 17:21 together one more time as we close.
The unity of our life group circle is incredibly important. It’s easy to get upset or angry with the people who you do life with the closest. Let’s commit as a group to never let anger or bitterness build up toward one another, but instead constantly seek to reconcile among one another! Let’s not let tonight or any night go by where we have unreconciled anger towards one another!
