Biblical Body Builders

In Paul's opening teaching on spiritual gifts in 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, he corrects the Corinthian church's misuse of God-given gifts. Rather than using their gifts to serve others and glorify God, the Corinthians had turned them into a competition -- comparing, ranking, and leveraging their gifts to elevate themselves above one another. Pastor Michael drew a vivid parallel to competitive bodybuilders who train and flex purely for show, never actually using their strength to help anyone. In the same way, spiritual gifts that are hoarded, flaunted, or used for personal recognition miss the entire point. Paul reminds us that the same Holy Spirit distributes every gift, and He does so for one clear purpose: so that we can help each other. Our gifts are not personal achievements to be proud of, nor are they reasons for insecurity when we compare ourselves to others. They are divine assignments, given by God, to be poured out in service to the people around us and ultimately to point everyone's attention toward Jesus.
