Faithful Where You Are

What if the very place we are most eager to leave is the exact place God most wants to use us? That is the provocative question sitting at the heart of 1 Corinthians 7:17-24, and it has the power to completely reframe how we see our everyday lives. The passage introduces us to a deceptively simple but deeply challenging principle: be faithful where you are. Paul repeats this idea three times in just seven verses, which tells us he does not want us to miss it. The spiritual lesson here cuts against the grain of a culture defined by restlessness, where contentment always seems to be waiting on the other side of the next change, the next promotion, the next season, or the next relationship. Paul pushes back hard on that assumption. Salvation changes everything about who we are, but it does not always immediately change the circumstances around us. Instead, God is often far more interested in transforming the person in the place than in simply changing the place for the person. We are invited to stop postponing obedience until life looks the way we think it should, and instead to ask a better question: not when is God getting us out of here, but what does God want to do through us while we are here?
