March 15

I love this story of Elijah and the prophets of Baal for many reasons, but mostly for the way God shows out to defend His glory. When we read this, we have to remember that it had not rained in over three years, yet Elijah told the people to pour out water onto the altar before the Lord. God wanted them to pour out what they needed most, knowing He would give back to them so much more. The sacrifice came before the blessing.

As we look at our own lives and at what God is asking our church to sacrifice, it feels for many of us that we are being asked to give up the very thing we need  most. I am comforted in knowing that God is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine (Eph. 3:20.) Just like He sent fire from heaven to show His power and glory, and just like after a three year drought he sent the rain, so He will honor our sacrifices, and He will provide for all we need as we rely on Him.

Prayer: God thank you for being such a powerful and reliable God. Thank you for the opportunity to know you, serve you and give you glory. Please continue to give me clarity on what you would have  me to give. Thank you for always taking care of me and providing for me. I want to trust you more.
